About Sophie
Sophie is a solicitor in our Medical Negligence Team, acting on behalf of both adults and children in a wide range of clinical negligence cases.
Her work involves claims arising from medical treatment provided by the NHS and private healthcare providers, including surgical negligence, misdiagnosed cancer claims, and birth injuries to mothers during childbirth.
Sophie works collaboratively with senior solicitors on high-value and complex cases involving maximum severity injuries, such as cerebral palsy and Erb’s palsy.
Clients regularly praise Sophie for being “compassionate,” “proactive,” and “informative”.
Beyond her legal work, Sophie is a passionate advocate for patient safety and access to justice within healthcare. She is the co-founder of @whataboutmums, an Instagram platform that raises awareness of birth injuries and trauma. Through this platform, she amplifies the voices of women affected by birth injuries and advocates for meaningful change in the healthcare system.

“You have provided me with personal confidence, compassion and security; treating me with such respect and kindness. I’m very grateful that you have worked on this case, and I truly feel lucky to have such an empathetic and trustworthy professional to work with.
I can’t help but think that if more law firms had people like you navigating this sadly vast area, vulnerable mums with trauma would be in a far safer ‘place’. I guess being on the ‘frontline’ of traumatic experiences goes hand in hand with your role, but I wanted you to know that the way you have handled my case has fostered a safe environment for my healing and recovery. Thank you for this.”
“My experience in my recent dealings with RWK Goodman were excellent, professional, compassionate and caring in all aspects of my case. I would like to say that Sophie Angwin-Thornes was especially excellent, who guided me through the case, with the utmost professionalism and compassion. The whole service was second to none.”
