ESG for health & social care: the deep-dive podcast series.

In this podcast series RWK Goodman will talk in depth about ESG (Environmental, Social and Governance) in connection with the Health and Social Care Sector. These talks are aimed at all providers from those who do not have a formulated ESG policy to those who have a measurable policy in place but are looking for ideas as to how it can work better for them. It will talk about further initiatives alongside looking at challenges of how policies will evolve over time and how it can be kept effective and meaningful.

What is covered?

Each podcast is of around 10-15 minutes and will take a deep dive into an important area of ESG, initial topics to be covered include:

CQC and ESG – Anna Fee gives an overview of the new sustainability requirements and how this affects health and social care providers.

The E in ESG – External land and energy – Robert Walton talks about the most commonly discussed limb of ESG, Environmental. This episode focuses on external aspects including renewable energy, land diversification and the cost benefit analysis of implementing energy saving solutions. Also discussed are retrofitting, greenwashing and how to reduce those energy bills!

The E in ESG – Internal energy efficiencies and technology- Robert Walton and Carl Selby talk about internal energy efficiencies, formulating an overall green plan for a care home as well as the effect of new technologies. There is a discussion of ESG and sustainability alongside the challenges and effective measurement of an internal energy strategy.

ESG and lending – Jon Hodgkins, Valuer and Jimmy Johns Director of Corporate debt advisory both of Christie Finance talk about how ESG and lending come together in the health and social care sector and what providers need to know when acquiring with finance or financing their portfolio.

There are also future podcasts on the S in ESG focusing on the workforce as well as community outreach alongside talks on governance, equality diversity and inclusion and a discussion with a provider about the challenges of implementing a ESG policy.

The series will run until the end of January 2025 when it will be wrapped up with a podcast looking at what’s next for ESG and what providers need to be aware of in terms of future trends.
