Why all the orange? RWK Goodman employees get garish for charity
If you’d come down to visit the RWK Goodman offices in Bath today, you might have found a few employees wearing some very colourful orange clothing. It’s not a strange new dress code though, it’s all for a good cause.
Staff based in RWK Goodman’s Bath offices got involved and wore orange to raise awareness for a very specific charity. Staff also baked cakes which were judged and then sold to help raise money, all proceeds going to a great cause.
So why did we all dress in orange this Monday?
Colour the World Orange day is an annual event held on the first Monday in November and is held to spread awareness of CRPS.
Buildings, bridges and landmarks are lit up orange and events are held across the world for Colour the World Orange day. For the staff at RWK Goodman, the best way to show our support was to wear orange, so we did just that!
We also baked a number of cakes for an office bake sale, the proceeds going to help CRPS UK, the UK’s first CRPS charity.
Julie Weymouth, Patient Volunteer at the Royal National Hospital for Rheumatic Diseases (“The Mineral Hospital”) and Co-Founder of CRPS-UK kindly agreed to judge the baking.
The Mineral Hospital is just a stone’s throw from RWK Goodman’s offices in Bath and they are one of the very few centres in the UK dedicated to the treatment of CRPS. This centre is now being moved to the Royal United Hospital in Bath, and later this month Laura Jackson from our CRPS claims team will be having a tour of the services which will be available at the new centre.
Why does Colour the World Orange day happen?
CRPS can affect anyone, at any age and at any time. It is an uncommon condition which can occur spontaneously but is frequently triggered by an injury suffered, or surgery. As specialists who act on behalf of people who have developed CRPS following an injury, we see firsthand how having to live with pain every day affects all aspects of an individual’s life. Yet still it is misunderstood.
Sadly, a cause or cure for CRPS has yet to be found. Despite the lack of an apparent cause, the sensation of pain is physical and very real to the sufferer. If left untreated, CRPS can cause psychological difficulties and long term disability.
This is why we admire the work that CRPS-UK does to support sufferers, and it is for these reasons that we feel so passionate about supporting Colour the World Orange day.
RWK Goodman and the CRPS claims team are proud to support CRPS-UK and “Colour the World Orange” CRPS awareness day, helping to bring attention to this poorly understood chronic pain condition.
A lot of the funds raised across the world go towards supporting research into CRPS. Money raised by staff will go to CRPS-UK to enable their work in supporting CRPS sufferers to continue.
